FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the storage and shelf life of EM-1®?

EM-1® Expiration: EM-1 generally has a shelf life of 1 year.  If stored properly and kept airtight EM can last long after the expiration date and will still not do any harm to plants or drains if disposed of after the date. Test the smell and pH of the EM-1® to know if it is still viable. It should have a sweet, fermented smell and a pH of 3.5 or below.

  • Once EM-1® is diluted with water how long will it keep?

If simply mixing with water, we recommend using within 12-24 hours. If activating EM, we recommend using it no later than 30 days.

  • Do weed killers affect EM-1® when applied on Lawns?

Most synthetic weed killers will kill the microbes, if pesticides are to be used, please wait at least 48 hours between applications of pesticide and EM-1®. As long as you are reapplying the EM-1® weekly, you will replace the good microorganisms, enhancing the soil’s ecosystem. You will notice, after consistent use of EM-1®, that you will be able to reduce the use of weed killers, pesticides, and other chemicals.

  • What are the white flakes on my EM-1® or ProEM-1®?

The white flakes are the beneficial yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and are perfectly normal.

  • Can I consume EM-1® instead of Pro EM-1®, is there less of a benefit?

Pro EM-1® is the most suitable product because it has been approved for human consumption. EM-1® is not harmful to humans, however, we cannot endorse its consumption because it has not been approved for that use. Activated EM products are unsafe for human consumption, as the activation is likely not done in a food-grade lab.

  • Is EM-1® organic and OMRI Listed?

Yes, you can find our certificates on the OMRI website here: www.omri.org
