Beautiful Sunny day at Hoa Aina O Makaha's Annual Open House
Well attended with families from all over the island. Entertainment, Healthy food stations, Harvesting Activity, etc.
Office manager Chikako & Karina with Hoa Aina O Makaha's founder Father Luigi (Gigi).
Healthy vegetables growing in raised garden beds.
Handmade pizza. Participants watching the show & eagerly waiting to taste.
Fresh out of the oven. Hot and delicious well worth the wait.
Fields of eggplants, beans, planted for the harvesting activity.
Fields of corn to be harvested by the participants later in the day.
Make your own container garden
Families were able to select a number of vegetables & herbs to plant in their own container garden to take home.
Another tasty food station, fresh corn from the farm with fresh butter & crackers with fresh butter churned on site.
Time for families to harvest the corn field.
Each family was allowed to harvest 4 ears of corn
Families moved down to the raised bed section to harvest more vegetables for healthy meals to cook at home.
I was able to take a quick photo with Kai, Gigi's son who has returned to the farm and take over what his father had started.
It was a day well spent looking at the displays of Makaha Elementary Students, touring the farm and tasting the healthy foods stations.
The Container Garden and Harvest activity was the most popular that left a smile on everyone young & old.
Mahalo, (Thank you) to the countless volunteers, supporters and staff of Hoa Aina O Makaha that make this an annual event!
