Kokua Hawaii Foundation offered hands on workshops for their Aina in School teachers and docents, in conjunction with the Oahu Master Gardeners.
There are currently 10 elementary schools participating from the North Shore, to Windward side and in town. Different techniques in composting will be
introduced to their 3 grade class, including EM® & EM® Bokashi which recycles "ALL" solid food waste in a fraction of the time.
Oahu Master Gardeners & Aina in School Docents smell, feel, and break apart EM® Bokashi made 2 weeks ago.
Participants spreading out previously made EM® Bokashi to dry for future use.
Oahu Master Gardeners & Aina in School docent carefully measuring molasses (food for the EM® to grow).
Oahu Master Gardener carefully measuring EM•1®.
Oahu Master Gardeners following the instructions on making EM® Bokashi and checking for right moisture content.
Each participant practiced making 2 lbs of EM® Bokashi , to use at home after fermenting for 2 weeks.
This Bokashi workshop was a "special" combined session and the participants were able to experience the entire process.
Participants were able to see & smell food waste that has been properly fermented with EM® Bokashi for 2 weeks.
The proper way the treated food waste should be mixed into soil and covered.
The final results after being left to breakdown in the soil for additional 2 weeks.
"Poor "soil with no life, transformed into “Super Soil” full of life and nutrients for plants to thrive!
